Ready To Do This!

Hey friends!

This week I’ve done some major adulting, including getting new glasses, gone to auditions and worked on the new projects I’ve been casted on!

Stylin’ in my Warby Parkers 😀

First I got a new pair of glasses from Warby Parker, it makes me feel cool so don’t judge me! Anyways, I love how they look on me. If you’re wondering why you’ve never seen me wearing glasses it’s because I usually only wear them when I’m driving. But because my vision isn’t as sharp any more I’m considering contacts now; especially for when I shoot!

This week was also my second week working on a children’s art show. It was really good, I feel like this is a great opportunity for me, I’m really looking forward to seeing some of the edited footage. There’s going to be a lot of content to film, it’ll take awhile so it maybe awhile before I have anything to share. In the meantime, I take selfies on set so I’ll be sharing those!

Despite how busy I’ve been this week, I did get some downtime, got spend time with my friends and even my partner (imagine that!). We work so much sometimes it’s hard to carve out time to spend with each other. That’s part of what’s giving me happy feels this week, let’s move on to the other stuff!

Things giving me happy feels this week:

Robot Lawyer: If you haven’t heard this is a website/robot designed by a young man to help people in select cities like London and New York fight parking tickets. YYYYAAAASSSSS! I can’t wait for it to come to southern California!

One Day At A Time on Netflix: SO GOOD. SO SO SO GOOD. I ended up binging this show because of a discussion I heard on NPR’s Pop Culture Happy Hour. First, I got hooked into this show because it was a wonderful break from the gloomy weather and intense political atmosphere this week. Second, the coming out story for one of the characters was very nicely done. Third, it was nice to see a cast full of Latino people, showing their culture and how it they exist in American society. I really appreciated it. It’s in the same vain as Fresh Off The Boat and Blackish. Anyways, if you’re looking for good feels this is a great show to watch.

Things giving me empowerment happy feels:

Hidden Figures: I’m sure you’ve already heard about this movie, and if you haven’t you gonna learn today! This movie tells the story of black women engineers and mathematicians who worked in NASA  who helped launch the first astronauts into space. It is every bit as inspiring and moving as you think it would be. Honestly, I walked away remembering that ever since black people (especially women and for that matter all people of color) have had to work hard to prove themselves, to stay ahead and work around any obstacles to get anywhere near a decent life to support themselves and their families

The Women’s March: Undoubtedly I’m sure you heard about the Women’s March that occurred around the world yesterday. I think it’s a great thing and a wonderful start for a women’s movement in the 21st century. As much as I feel like this is going to be the start to a powerful movement I think we as women and our allies have to take a moment to get on the same page. Let’s be honest, there is discrimination and intolerance among women and we have to face that. There are women who don’t understand their own bias and contribute unknowingly or knowingly to racism, transphobia, homophobia, whorapobia, xenophobia, patriarchal and able bodied structures. For this march to turn into a powerful movement we HAVE to start having these conversations and embrace each other’s ways of life. We need to be willing to fight for ALL women’s womenhood despite our differences. The next four years will be hard, and will be harder on some of us than others, so for the sake of our sanity let’s find a way to become a unified, cohesive, inclusive movement.

That’s all for now friends, see you next week!

Ayo
